A defining aspect of Malaysian student life is the prevalence of "Tuition" (extra classes). Due to the exam-centric nature of the system and high competition for university placement, a vast majority of students attend private tuition centers after school hours. This creates a "second school" dynamic, leaving students with limited free time.
For many Malaysian students, particularly those in urban areas or Chinese vernacular schools, school doesn’t end at the bell. Tuition (private tutoring) is a massive industry. Parents send children to pusat tuisyen to excel in Mathematics, Science, and English. The pressure is real: SPM and STPM results are seen as gateways to prestige and success.
Verbal and physical bullying remains a concern, particularly in hostels. The Ministry has introduced "anti-bullying" squads, but the hierarchical nature of Asian seniority (seniors vs. juniors) sometimes fuels the fire.
